2-Instrument Robotic Appendectomy


Note: These techniques and cost-savings recommendations may not be universally applicable to all clinical scenarios. 2-Instrument Robotic Appendectomy

 

Performing a cost-effective robotic appendectomy can be achieved with the following recommendations:

 

  • In most cases, 3 robotic arms are sufficient 
  • Utilizing only 2 instruments (the fenestrated bipolar grasper and the hook cautery) is feasible 
  • Securing the base of the appendix can be achieved with Clips or Endoloop ligature, or suturing as opposed to using a stapler
